mk1 engine conversions
got a mk1 golf 1984 1.1 and lookin at doing a vr6 conversion anyone know if its any hassle doing it like any wireing that needs to be done,( i will be getting the wireing loom off a vr6 )
also if it is the best way to go, looking at roughly 200bhp ???

Well, whilst the VR6 is a great sounding engine, there are certainly better ways to 200bhp. A stock 1.8T will give 150bhp and with a decent remap, air filter and exhaust easily 200bhp.
VR6 is also a heavy old lump and the 1.8T would provide better future tuning potential.

Not sure how much help this is but there is a part finished VR6 project for sale in the classifieds & I think he's only looking for a grand for it

how reliable is the 1.8t ? also which golf is it out of the mk4 ?

I'm using the original 1.8 8V bored to 1900 and fully rebuilt by TSR. I did think about changing the engine but there is no point, it's my weekend toy not just about power. I would just buy an RS4 if I wanted a purely quick car.
The 1.8T is from a Mk4 and very readily available. Very good engines from what I hear, you can even get a 200+ bhp stock engine but that would cost more to source.

sweet will have to look into that then, is it a strate fit in a mk1 golf? , also i went to santa pod a while back and some one had a 1.8t and the turbo was broken on it, do you know how reliable the turbo's are on it ?
