MK1 Diesel van ?!

Hey Guys, I am want to know a bit about mk1 diesel vans, are there many? are they efficent? how big is the original engine?   any info at all would be great.

looks like a very small engine, but am sure its original, its the first time i have ever seen what looks like a factory van panel golf, i have no idea what its worth, rough round the edges, could do with a bit of attention but has full mot.
