Mk1 cabby radiator

Hey guys/girls,
Iv decided to change my radiator in my 1.8 1989 cabby due to it been rusted and the car is starting to overheat when idling in traffic or anytime I'm not going 60mph+ it goes to about 3/4's of the way up the temp gauge and sits there… Iv been thinking about getting a larger radiator and I heard that you can get a large radiator with two fans that fits into the mk1 and was wondering if anyone knows where I can buy one? I was also thinking about putting silicon piping in aswell is this maybe a step to far?

Also can anyone help me diagnose this problem… When I turn the car on it will idle for about 15 seconds nicely and then I get a grinding noise from what I think is the bottom end area of the engine it definitely sounds like metal on metal and I'm starting to get very worried about it any help or advice would be appreciated

Cheers all hope you all ok,

For just a standard engine the normal radiator and fan should be fine if working as they should. Is the car losing or mixing any oil or water? When it gets hot are you putting the heaters on?

Grinding noise doesn't sound good, hard to say without seeing or hearing it. Is it when the car is in gear, neutral or both? A whining noise when clutch is out would indicate release bearing but if doesn't go away in neutral not that.

I have a standard radiator and fan for sale if you are interested let me know.

The car is losing oil from a small leak from what I believe is the rocker cover gasket i can't be entirely sure until iv cleaned down the engine and it's a tad dirty and it looks like the leaks been there s while :/ and I haven't realised the water going down quickly however I did refill the system last. Week after only filling it up a month ago…..

The grounding happens in neutral and in gear but seems to fade when the car is in motion not sure if this is simply because I can't hear it over road noise or not :/ I do have a slight wine noise but. Thought that was apt he water pump on the way out so im waiting for parts to replace that…..

What conditions. The radiator and fan in? And how much are you looking for them?

Thanks for the reply
