Mk1 Cabby - Is It a GTI Or Not?

Hi All,

I've just bought a 1992 Mark 1 cabby and I'm not sure if it's a GTI or not. It's down on the log book as being a Golf Cabrio GTI, and it looks exactly like a GTI Rivage, but there are no GTI badges on the car. It has two badges on the boot - the one on the left says 'Volkswagen' and the one on the right says 'Golf Cabriolet'.
It's got a 1.8 engine and a 5 speed box.

I love the car as it is, and don't mind whether its a GTI or not, but I'm wondering why it's not badged as a GTI if it is one, and wondered if any of you knew whether it is a GTI or not? Does the fact that the log book states that it is mean that it is?
Additionally, does anybody know what versions there are of the 92 Cabby please?

Know nothing about cabrios, but if logbook says gti and badges can be easily changed my bet is it is or was a gti, assume its injected not carbed.

if its injection its a gti, if ur not sure post a pic of the engine bay.

Thanks for your input guys, the knowledge on this forum is cracking! Not got any pics of the bay yet - pick car up next weekend so will try and post pic then.

Just checked and it's a 1.8 fuel injected engine. Does that mean its a GTI?

Nope. There were a few fuel injected non-GTI models of the cabby. There was a well informed thread on here a few months back that gave full explanation of teh fuel injected cabby's.  Very informative.  

But judging by the log book I believe you have a GTI.

as long as it has the injected engine thats all that matters really, check the code though it should be DX or PF
