mk1 1.6 gti 8v - how quick

im looking at getting another mk1, in no rush as more i save the nicer car i will get.

After something quick that im not going to get bored of. I used to have a 1.3 with lots of uprated engine parts and that was quick(ish) up to about 60

Seen a 1.6 gti 8v, anyone own one and can shed some light? Will i get bored of it, are they fairly rapid or am i better off going for a 1.8 gti or something 20v or vr6'd?

In the real world the 1.6 is just as fast as the 1.8 but both have been left behind by more modern hot hatch,s, with some work more power can be obtained, depends what you are looking for really, personally 2 ltr 16v power with a relaxed 150 bhp is where i would want to be.

Quick but not really fast, if you ever try a 16v in a mk1 you'll never go back
