Is my front grille original?

Not sure if you can make it out or not, but around the inner lamps is a ring which is about 7mm or so wide.

All the other pics I've seen of twin lamp grilles don't have it, so I'm a bit confused.

(it's not a problem really, I'm going to be changing it for a single lamp one, just wanted to know)

The black rings would suggest that the spots are the wrong size perhaps?  :?

Registration year is confusing me too, but I seem to recall an explanation involving some crazy country.  

It's a 1983 build, imported from Europe I believe (not sure though), in RHD spec, not registered 'til 87.

It is a GTI, but it had a respray in January, nence the lack of stripes.

As for the chin spoiler, no idea on that, but I presume it came like that from Europe  :dontknow:
