is it ok to have the car off the floor on 4 axle stands??

hi :)

bought another set today to do just that and in the safety bumf it had a  cross next to a pic of a car on 4 stands :dontknow:  is this a no no??

had wanted to get it off the ground for when i do this engine cahnge to give me plenty of room.

also where do you guys put em? i've used the jacking points on the sills before but it just doesn't look right with all that weight going on to that thin edge 8O

the set i've bought today are the gucci ratchet ones but the tops look more like they've been designed to damage the car looking like some kind of crecent moon shape :?

anyway any advice is mucho appreciated cheers

Chris :)

Common sense here - if you don't have any wheels in contact with the ground stability goes out the window. As long as you aren't stupid there's no reason why you can't use 4 axle stands but a serious shove will knock the whole lot over.

If you are doing it then make sure you've got a couple of jacks under too when you're working and thrown the wheels and tyres under the sills to catch it if it falls.

I've done this many times without issue but you do need to be aware it won't be stable. As for jacking points, anything substantial e.g. reinforced bits around suspension, subframes etc

The only problem is you won't be able to drive. Then the lack of fun you have when driving it may send you slowly insane, resulting in you being carted off.

That's probably why the picture was there. :y:

Well, you could try and you'd have better fuel economy, superb brakes and much lighter steering
