Is it bad I'm starting to resent my golf?

I know it sounds bad but iv had my car for 6 months and it's been taxed and MOTd and insured for 2 weeks now and iv managed to get two days of enjoyment out of it because the rest of the time it's been broken……. I bought the car for 200 pounds and currently iv changed
Cam belt
Brake disks and pads
Clutch
Gear linkage
Gear box
All the braided cables that deal with induction…the  air pipes
Bought a new choke cable just need to fit it
Steering rack gaitors
Handbrake
In total iv spent almost a grand in the last month fixing this car…
The point was to have a original mk1 golf and keep it that way but the way it's going it seems like itl be completely different by the end of it all :/ I originally wanted to modify the engine and have a sport little cabby but it seems that is very difficult to do and would just ruin it but even for a 1.8 it seems sluggish :/
I had troubles with the car stalling every time  I went off the throttle and onto the brakes and clutch and I thought it was because of the air line cables been frayed so I replaced them.. The cars run fine all day but then this afternoon it just started doing it again and was really struggling to keep the revs up and constantly stalled what else could this be caused by? My choke cable is not working at the moment and after playing around with the actually choke lever it seems to work again but the lever always falls into the same position I'm really Confused and am starting to wonder if I can really afford this car..
If anyone has any advice on the stalling or words of wisdom to keep me going would be grateful :)

think of it this way, when all the work needed is done your gonna have a great car that will bring a smile to your face, you got the car cheap and that usually means it needs work, I paid nearly 1300 quid for my cabby and had to replace the roof, roof frame, exhaust and some engine work, all work done and i love the car, we all get fed up sometimes but the good times always outway the bad in a mk1

keep your chin up

It was my brothers landlord sold it to me he's loaded and wanted room for his 2 AMG mercs and a new lotus élan lol it had been sat for 4 years so I expected things to need changing just thought it would be nice if they didn't all go wrong at once especially with the bhp show coming up aha

Dont expect to much from it straight away.

If you spent 2k then it would be different.

Just fix what needs fixing and enjoy it.

I know the feeling.  Last year spent about as much as I paid for the car in repairs.  Some of it wanted to do, some of it was needed.  This year it will be a little bit less, but still more than £1k.

I have given up on thinking logically about my Clipper.  I just fix and improve as and when I can afford it.  I've had 4 x MK 1's and I just can't stay away from them!

Cheers guys for the pick up I'm gnu carry on and make this car good it just gets to that point were I'm spending more time looking at it on a ramp than I am actually driving it iv found out my main issue is that I'm running a rubbish pierburg carb so iv been looking around for a webber to put on in it's place I have also seen a refurb kit for the pierburg will this make much of a difference? As if I can make it run for a few months api can then save the money to buy a new webber cheers again

At the end of the day, what are you expecting from a 200 quid car? I bought mine for 700 and it was just about MOT-able, but it has cost me more in the long run obviously.
Some people go out and spend a few grand or more on a good mk1 for a reason; they are in good nick and ready to go. But if you are shopping in the bargain basement then don't expect miracles!
For 200 I think you got a bargain, so keep going, and once she is road worthy and running properly you will love her/it/him

Its been off the road 5 years in June and i miss it :(

Although I am now enjoying the challenge of doing up my mk1, if I could go back in time rather than spend 700 and then all the rest it would have been easier to just spend 3 to 4k on a good runner,
but heh, what;s life if it's not a challenge?

Chin up dude, good things come to those who wait…

I've just swapped from Pierburg to Weber and the difference is unreal - the car is a totlly different animal, it's well worth doing.

Six foot eleven of total idiot.
