I have sympathy for you mate.
I'm 19 and i'm paying 2221 a year.
First year of driving, and I only passed in sep!
So everyone quoting you 2500+ is a right ballache!
Sucks so much doesn't it bud?
Tried everyone in the back of pvw etc and all specialist performance/young drivers companies?
Hope you find something more realistic mate!
*I've got a mk1 Golf C 1.1

I'd say if u can afford it then keep the mini as a daily drive and then insure the mk1 as a weekend show car through heritage as that will save u bucks but they will only cover for 7.5 thousend miles a year as a second car.
Good luck insurance sucks balls!!

I paid 620 at 25 and i passed in august. it's a 5door 1.1
funny thing is i was insured the day after I passed on a '96 1.8 16v mazda 626 for 520.
my 83 golf was a hundred quid dearer.
It's silly really.
jon.

Re: Insurance for 18yr old in a MK1..HELP!
All young drivers having trouble insuring their mk1 should try elephant car insurance!
Im 18 with 1 yr ncb and just got a 1.3 cl insured with coilovers and alloys declaired and im paying around ?800!
I payed 1400 last year on a 1.1 with more modifications with lancasters but they wont insure a car of that age now. Shows if you hunt enough you can get a really good price
Anyway, I doubt you would get a better quote than elephant from anywhere else
