Importing from South Africa

Hi there, can anyone tell me if its possible to import body panles from south africa VW?.  Ive got this romantic notion that ill be able to order myself a new roof skin, have it shipped to the UK and then get a bodyshop to fit it hassle free.  Am i in cloud cuckoo land? or has this been done before?.  I dont even know if the shell is exactly the same or if its still in production?.  Maybe some kind chap could come along and burst my bubble and i can get on with looking for a second hand roof skin.

You're probably better off just looking for a second hand one matey, they are pretty easy to come by because of the demand for non-sunroof roofs, and the fact that both 3 and 5 door Golfs, and Jettas all share the exact same roofskin.

They are also not a typical place to rust on a mk1 so they are often easy to find.

As above, theres a few people on here cutting up shells.

it must be possible as vw heritage imported the rear arch tubs but they have stopped and i would like to import one from there. ill have a dig around tomorow see what i can find out

Anything is possible with the right amount of £££

There's a few S.A guys registered on here, might be worth asking for their help.  

I did think about VW heritage, ill give them a go tomorrow and ill report back .

Hi Smudger, i had a look on the net and the courier service is DHL and RAM . I can get all the scarce MK1 parts . In south Africa VW only manufactured 4 door mk1s. I have a set of Velociti ( 2005 year) model interior it is simial to the mk1 GTI seats just new. One can fit it in 2 door mk1s, but the problem is to flip the seat forward. Their is a way to flip the seat but the leavers is situated at the bottem of the seat and does not have a handle on the top side of the seat.

Just about to do that now , zee if you see this first would you be so kind as to do me a big favour? Would it be possible for you to find out if the mk1 golf roof skin is available from anywhere in South Africa?  Preferably with the steel sliding sunroof like the campaign mk1`s in the UK although im not sure if they manufactured them with those?.  Thanks.
