Im now a owner

I am now a mk1 gti owner  , Ive already done about 100 miles or so in it and loving it. Ill get some pictures up of it soon, (its in a bit of a state at the moment due to sorting out "previous owner syndrome" as after 13 previous owners there are a few bodges, like some very iffy radio wiring buit on the plus side now ive taken part of the dash out I have got the fan working so thats one thing    and Ive now plugged up the hole in the bulk head where the radio aerial had been pushed through and dislodged the grommet allowing the sound deadening to be soaked through (thats been binned, I just have to remove the centre console to remove the last of the soaked sound deadening and we are sorted.)

Ive also already ordered a new exhaust for it to give it a bit more of a bark and stock the one thats been badly fitted on there banging on the valance every time I go round a bend or hit a bump  

then it just need a tune up as its a right git to start (need throttle to get it going but i suspect the mixture and / or timings not spot on) but i have got a brand new dizzy to fit that came with the car, and I have a timing light, and a CO2 machine so i can get it set (although a lack of a haynes manual at the mo is stopping that as i dont know what the tming should be..

Give me a few months and it should be running as sweet as a nut and looking rather nice too inside and out (my seat subframes have been ordered so in a week or so the buckets and harnesses will be in.)

so much I want to do but so little spare time what with being back at uni now…  oh well.

just some quickies I took last night, it needs a damn good clean and as I say its still a bit rough around the edges but in time i will get it looking mint.

some of you may have seen the car before as i got it from one of the members.




ill warn you now there will be a number of questions soon about setting up the K jet mixture and timing as I find my way (been pampered last few years with minis that run on ECUs so do everything them selfs)

well i have now removed the cente console and taken out the sound deadening that was damp, I have also got the fog lights working, but i have taken out the one number plate lamp that wasnt working but its not a blown bulb as i hoped its that the units been filled with water and rusted away  :cry: so now i have to hope gsf have a unit in stock as i have the mot thurs morning, but im at uni all day tomorrow so i have wed morning only to get the car rebuilt and ready for thurs as im in uni wed afternoon..

oh and found even more bodged wiring, it seems a previous owner somewhere along the line had a passion for just twisting wires together and leaving the bare wires to flap around!!! I know it will be wort it in the end but its heartbreaking to think ive paid all this money and the more i strip the car to fix one problem i need finding more hidden ones but im a picky git and i cant leave a bodge! so i have to do it.
