Im in the club now

went for it and chopped in the FTO and got my first mk1 cabrio GTI .

few of niggles with it but nothing that cant be fixed with a bit of time and effort.

if possible i could do with pointing in the right direction coulpe of things i need to know then can start reading up and fixing.

the car is a 89 GTI with a 16v conversion , looks like it has rolled out the factory like that,  the way its been done very clean and neat .

however not all good as it has the cold start problem dont like it at all once warm nice and smooth tho. think this is a csv but not sure on its location yet.  do we know how i work out what version of 16v engine is in it ?

and the dash does not want to light up or mfa work heard this could be a bit of a mine field but im gonna give it a go just unsure what will work with the engine conversion . also there seems to be some earth faults as high beam bulb/led id lit dim and also the temp gauge does it some times.

basicly want to know where to find some info, on engine and wiring on the dash . not sure what clocks are in it if i post a pic would some one be able to let me know .

If you've got a pic of the engine or the engine code handy that'd help people identify it - I suspect it'll be a 1.8 16v from the Mk2, but it's hard to say without seeing it.

I'd also guess your electrical problems stem from the splicing together of Mk1 and Mk2 looms (or whatever the donor car was). Again, once people know exactly what you're running they'll be able to help you out - plenty of people on here run 1.8 and 2.0l 16v conversions.
