I want to sweeten up my golf
I have a 1988 clipper cabriolet (1.8 Carb) and wanted to know a couple of things on how to sweeten it up, otherwise I'll sell it this summer- eek!
As a soft top (which I love by the way because it just looks better) it is suffering from a few noise issues, I think the lip of the roof vibrates at speed (70mph+) against crosswind and makes a horrible noise- how can I remedy it?
Can someone tell me whether it's worth changing my door and window seals to prevent the drivers window "popping" out when there is a strong cross wind.
And lastly, the car was lowered before I bought and it makes a big bang when I go over a speed bump at more then 20mph or drive over a pothole. Is this because it's bottoming out and my shocks are gone and if so should I raise it up again or just get the shocks sorted?
Thanks

over 20mph? speed bumps are meant to slow you down!
Seriously I have to crawl over speed bumps in my car its one of the downsides of having a lowered car

Are the side cables in place, to stop it going baggy?

mine goes much better and is a lot quieter when the roofs down (drying my nail varnish  ) and in the summer the roofs never up anyway
as for the window popping out, past the top seal i expect you mean? does it have electric windows? if it does you can adjust the very crude bolt that acts as the limit stopper on the regulator behind the door panel, mine had some tiny gaps and a bit of tinkering later its completely tight up to the rubbers, and stops were it should, as my drivers one used to raise to far up and the passenger one not enough

I suggest fitting some 'A' pillar covers too. I have and it made a huge difference, even the wife noticed it's quieter at speed.

I'm glad to say there's nothing baggy about the roof but I suppose it could be a bit tighter on the hooks in the front, I have noticed that if I drive North or West it does make more noise then if I go South or East (don't laugh it's true) so maybe it's the passenger side clip that needs tightening up
I'm not sure what" "A" pillars are but I'm search and find out!
Re: drivers window, they are the oldschool manual ones and the gap appears across the pillar, the top is alright.
