I'm suprised.....

I do a lot of miles around the country with my job and whenever I see a MK1, dead or alive, I try and write down all or part of its number plate. I'll then do a search on our register to see if its on there but very rarely does it come up trumps. I think I've clocked 5 this week already and not 1 is on our register.

Either people don't bother registering it on there or there are far more MK1's out there who are not yet part of this club than I think. This is possibly good as it's an untapped source!

And before you say it my passenger door pocket is full of MK1 calling cards and I do, whenever safe to do so, try and leave a card.

When I say "safe" I mean:

Not leaning out of the window at 70MPH on the M6 to hand out a card
 or
Fear of being accused and assulted for attempting to pinch someones wipers
 or
Turning round to find my van on bricks and a load of wires hanging out the dash!

I think there's a heck of a lot of owners who have Mk1's but just aren't bothered about any club scene, or meeting other mk1 owners, going to shows/meets etc etc…their car (albeit a nice classic one   ) is just a car to them. Which is fair enough. I've also tried to get the few mk1's I've spotted regularly in my area to sign up here (left calling cards) but with no luck. We just have to accept that not ALL mk1 Golf owners want to be part of a club/scene/community…whatever you want to call it! We can keep trying, though!

I know what your saying Graham, I seen two yesterday on my travels around my area I didn't even know existed!

I stopped at both, wrote reg down and left cars checked registers and the same - also posted in "was it you?"

There's loads of factors in it like not having the net or as above, not knowing what you have or simply not being bothered about it!

I'm glad that you stop when you can mate and sometimes, it does pay off, keep up the good work! :D

Example, I put a card on a acr in portsmouth just before christmas and he came on! :D

Black "A" reg with German style numberplates and BBS wheels?

Yep that was me.

Your car wasn't on the register though if I recall. Haven't kept your number so can't double check. Get it on there!!!

Can't say I'd seen it before though. Looked tidy enough. Are you from Banbury?
I think it had a Billing 2008 sticker on it also?

I saw a decked ratty yellow caddy in Banbury today on ATS cups which I'd never seen before but never got the number plate to do more investigating. :dontknow:

There's a couple of white cabrios, excluding Nickys who is on here also from Banbury, a tidy early green cabrio on ATS, a few caddys but not so many tin tops. There was a lad who had a red G40 tin top but he was trying to sell it the last time he was on here.

I don't use mine through the salty winter months as its more of a show car which I prefer to preserve. Come the dryer weather then it'll be out again

Maybe we'll have our own regional meet one day!

Talking of which, we're a bit on the edge of a few regional meets, Coventry, Milton Keynes, West Midlands even Berkshire if I could get the time but sometimes they are all just a bit too far just to nip across to.

I'm going to try and make it to all listed above at some point this year, even if its not in the MK1.
