I'm back! New mk1, new problems!! PICS - ALL FIXED!!

Hey,
Hope you and your cars are all well!!

I've been missing a while, as I sold my mk1 in march.

But bought another one last weekend!!

1.6 this time….

Anyway, i had planned on getting on here just to show it off, but looks like i'm need of help sooner than i thought!!

Basicly, i pulled the fuel pump relay out of the fusebox with the engine still running and now it won't start! - stupid, i know, but it's done now!
The wiper relay was making a funny noise and not thinking i tried to see which relay it was. (being that this fusebox looks totally different to the 1.8 )

The fuel pump works when the relay bridged, but there is no power to the spark plugs. Any ideas please?

Cheers,

Liam

Stupid question but is there a fuse for the spark plug ignition? Maybe this got overloaded when you pulled the fuel pump fuse out?

Just been to have another look….
It does run now with me just bridging the gap on the fuel pump relay!
Does that mean that i just need a new relay?! Think i'll order a new wiper one while i'm there!

Cheers,

Liam

Hmm, run a live feed to the fuel pump (trace the wires back from the fuel pump under the passenger carpet). I used a short piece of wire and pushed it into the back of the multi socket that matched up, and the other into the big red ones going into the fusebox…. if you hear the fuel pump kick in the problem lies within the fusebox.  I found i had a fault in where the fuse for the fuel pump relay wasn't contacting the strip properly in the fuse box. If you have melted or burnt contacts on the fuse (5 I think) then this may also be the case. Although if the fuel pump is noisy it can also be caused by too much current being drawn. I also had a similar problem with a dry joint on the relay .  You may have broken the contacts to the pins by pulling it out. Give the relay a sniff and see if it smells like an arcade machine gone wrong. :D .  If you can get another and try to eliminate it.  Sorry for the essay, but i have had the same trouble….. My fault rested on the crap fuel pump, but not until the brand new (pattern) one had failed after 2 days!!!! Apparently Bosch are making the pumps again so i bought one!  (probably due to demand  8O ).
Good luck fella.

Oh yeah the fuel pump wires run from under the rear passengers carpet (drivers side rear seats, near where seat and carpet meet )across the rear passenger seats to the back of the pass side and goes forward along door/carpet trim to fuse box. On mine they were yellow and red, but 1.6 might be different (seeing as they changed the loom every 30 seconds).
