I'm absolutely distraught. ***UPDATE***

Update Here

I've had a few lads off the forum come and take a look at her.
Thanks Tom and Pete  :)

And both have suggested that it could be fixed, but for how much…

In other circumstances, for example if my name was Paul_C, then i'd get her back on the road but as I lack the skills to do it it wouldn't be a sensible option to take on the work.
*note to self - can't let heart rule head!*
-plus i'm not Richard Branson, I don't have a endless pot of money.

So she will be broken and sold in bits  :(
Then the shell will be scrapped
(although i'd rather someone took it off me?? Bit of rot to bottom of rear valance, in the corners. And obviously the damage to the front valance and inner wing. Other than that it's tip-top. Chassis leg not been touched.)

Thanks for all your offers of help but it's too big a job for me.

Now i'm searching for another Mk1 !

Mate that's dreadful news, really sorry to hear that. Don't worry too much about the car, I know it's easy to say but the main thing is that nobody was injured.

Get some pics up soon, you know we'll all rally round to try and help.

Bonnet, wing, inner wing, front valance, grill plate, wheel, posibly shockers - hub - brake disk….. it's going to be costly mate.  Get it checked out first for structural movement… if it doesn't need to be pulled back into shape you should be able to but it back on the road… probably for your budget  :dontknow:

Glad you're ok bud…. scary moment that!!!!

Hey Pedders,
I hope you're right.

Not quite sure on the cause to be honest.
It was an odd tyre though, and it did look a bit dodgy.

I should have got some new ones sooner

I did alot to that block, that was what i went to germany and poland in, never missed a beat, during the 2 years i had the block, i never went over 75 in her.
Then i sold it has i needed bigger due to my kids getting bigger very quickly
I think it is a learning curve for you now, always check a car fully to your happy and that it is road worthy as dont forget your putting others at risk.
Sorry for moan but main thin now is no-one hurt, car can be replaced, but in your case it can and no doubt wil be repaired soon
Best wishes
Pete

Oh by the way, i have spare driveshafts from my x reg, no problems with them, kept for spare, if yours are damaged, by all means come and take one for replacement, FREE, i have front brand new spring for you also if that snapped?, headlights & indicator lenses also, all FREE for your cause fella, just let me know, what parts you need if i have anything else for the front i will give you

i wouldnt have recomended using those mix set of tyres for daily driving as they were put on just to get the car home, plenty of tread, saved having to get a trailer.. as for car being road worthy it flew through its last mot without any advisorys, gutted to see it damaged as many hours were spent on this car but glad ur ok Aaron

please that you are ok, was anyone else in the car?
looks like it took a belt, are the crash cones crumpled at all?
if they are ok, then you can probably straighten out the inner wing and replace the others at a reasonable price if you are willing to do most of the work, the most expensive thing is the paint job!

I wasn't insinuating that it was your fault, Tom. The car is fantastic.

I just really regret not changing the wheels.
Guess it was due to my naivety in thinking they'd be ok for a few weeks, and my eagerness to get on the road after being without a Mk1 for so long.

Well and truly gutted.

What makes it worse: I was about 1 week away from getting some really nice alloys, ( I contacted a seller on here about having them delivered.)

It's all a learning curve, as has been mentioned already.

She'll be back on the road in no time.
