How much of a deal did I get with my car?

i was thinking the other day (yes… teenagers think  ) and i thought that my car was a bloody good buy for what i paid for it:

FULL service history (2 books full of it)

every tax disc back till about '89

HUUUUUGGEEE book of receipts.. EVERYTHING ever bought/done to it

that alone has got to be worth summat

even got the bill of sale may 23rd 19831

also came with the original sales/ad brochures

car itself in relative condition, mechanically sound, NO rust under the engine thanks to a more-than-generous helping of waxoyl.

all for ?750.. i think its fantastic, anyone else?

Sounds like a reasonable deal to me, especially as you're restoring it to standard condition, meaning service history and old bills will really add to its authenticity.

Full service history and receipts for previous work are nice to have but don't really add anything to a car, unless its REALLY excellent condition where it can add the extra value. Cars 25+ years old will have had lots spent in the past, ie already gone through several sets of tyres, exhausts, alternator, starter motor, etc etc so you can have a stack of receipts but still the car has components which are towards the end of its life. There's nothing in particular on the Mk1 which is costly to replace (not like, say, a 70k Peugeot which will be coming up for a costly cambelt change). So, better to physically go from condition.

?750 for a small block 3 door is about right, if its good condition and with current MoT (that means something, not a "Straight Through Steve" special)! But then thats a general guide, you'd need to view the specific car in the flesh to know if you had a good deal or not.

Probably rust eleswhere other than under the engine bay. Under the engine is often perfect as the leaking engine oil protects. Engine backwards might reveil something sinsterrr…

lol @ Wooders

I paid ?600 for mine, came with 10 months MOT, but no tax. It has a full stainless exhaust system, Stainless manifold, High lift cam, Audi Throttle body, and extremely small amount of rust (in rear well… about 50p size) and on the front wing… replaced!
Didnt get much history with it, but its being restored, so i kinda guess it dont matter… seeing as everything bought for it has been recorded now, and everythings new  :)
Started first time when i went to see it, and every time after that!

BARGAIN!  :D

306s are actually very good cars - I run one as my daily.

They're relatively quick, cheap to run, cheap to insure, relatively easy to work on, handle well (it's actually more stable than my Golf at higher speeds) and so far, touch wood, it's never let me down. It's also survived 2 accidents and is going strong  8O
