I have recently sold my GTi to pay for the reapirs to the
convertible, it didnt get driven so made sense really.

Its still not running, I spent months messing around with
and its now in a garage being looked at

At this rate summer will be over before the cars finished

It does seem to be the common trend, I've spent over 3.5k since December (car still not driveable) and the project may not be finished until the end of the year if ever, scary thing is none of that includes the forthcoming trip to the bodyshop  :(

Shelled out about ?800 since buying my campaign in march, parts were ?380 ish and then spent ?350 having them fitted..

Have had to change mine over to Manx registration which invovles a serious MOT type test.. passed first time :-) and i have just this week got its new number and logbook.

It drives like new now though and im so pleased with it… might have to take her for a blast over the mountain now.. its TT week here so there are 10miles+ of one way roads full of mad hairy arsed bikers. lol

Just taken this picture of mine for footman james agreed value insurance.. she could use a clean really.

I did most of the work myself  8O except engine machining and body work+respray.

Even at mates-rates, you add up how much for sourcing good 2nd hand doors, hatch, welding new sills+arches and a professional (not rattle cans in a lock-up) respray. Then all the bits that you just have to replace when rebuilding; gearbox seals, brakes, clutch, fuel pump, radiator, fuel lines, refurb wheels, brake lines, window seals, exhaust, heat shield etc.

Then stuff like new tyres, service items, a decent radio and immoboliser to finish it off

Plus the original cost of the car and its soon adds up :banghead:

im struggling to understand why your spending such large amounts?

someone said they spent 25k rebuilding there campaign. why? you can buy mint originals for under 10k.

i understand modding is expensive, but some people seem top be spending loads on restoring cars, i paid 2400 for my mk1, its in nice condition and i use it as my daily. ive had it about 3 or 4 months now and ive not spent a penny. i'l be servicing it pretty soon, butthats only 50 or 60 quid.

some see it as a hobby so spending that much is quite ok if you can afford it!! joining a golf club or fishing ect ect all ads up in the same way!

i have spent about 3k including buying the car and havent got it on the road yet!
