as said the gti is a bit more powerfull 112 to 90bhp, the carb models can be a bit tempremental, but if its running fine then thats cool

as i said It looks clean,  and any nice soft top will sell for the right money   neither version standard is a racing car, but if you want a Gti one then hold out for one, or get this one then upgrade next year   its cheap enough

nice one bud seen a few gti models but hard to get a clean one. how much would it roughly cost to convert to a gti std?

Hold out for a GTI if you want a GTI.

True! Dont buy it then regret it.  Having said that, that is a nice looking car from the pics and ?1500 would be a reasonable price IMO

No that looks like a normal later Cabrio screen washer bottle.

The carb Cabrios are still quite nippy, remember its 1.8 90bhp in a relatively light car. (compared to modern vehicles)

The acceleration is 'softer' than the GTI but you can fairly press on once underway. I have an article from a 1987 VW mag testing the 90hp original small bumper Clipper and they give in-gear 30-50 and 50-70 times as 'practically identical' to a GTI they tested 2 months eariler. Top speed is given as 105.

The GTI was also 25% more expensive so think there will be less around.

Given the choice between two Cabrios in the same condition but one was carb and one a GTI everyone would pick the GTI but now even the youngest is 15+ years old it might be easier to find a good condition Cabrio and accept wheatever engine its got?

Also Cabrios are abit more about show than go.

1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

hold out this is the time to buy a cabby what i did was find one that looked a bit tatty ie needed a new roof got mine for ?1000 2 yrs back
all it needed was a new roof ?300 fitted but because it needed the roof the price was reduced by prob 600-800 worth keep looking plenty on ebay best to see one or two before you buy.

Dont ask what your club can do for you, but what can you do for your club?
