how do you put a price on your car?

due to having a baby in our lifes now my mk1 is just not going to be of any use really, as its got lap belts in the back and its been a full on no money spared project for last 3 years  , but how do you put a price on what its worth i have basically gone to town ,had a look on ebay ,pistonheads etc and the prices seem so different and mine seems so much better
heres the spec so you see what i mean
1991 sportline in red new roof mohair
bbs rm 8.5s rear 7s front
koni shocks ,eibach springs ,eibach anti roll bars, fully polybushed with powerflex bushes all wishbones etc replaced
g60 front brakes 280 mm with ebc drilled and groved disks green stuff pads ,mk4 rear disk conversion with goodridge hoses all round ,lrg sevro 22 m/c
engine is fully rebuilt 2.0 8v uprated rings, balanced fly wheel crank, pistons etc, fully rebuilt head polished and ported  (man in shed)kent cam&pully, audi throttle body, chrome header tank &strut brace ,supersprint 4 branch full super sprint exhaust
fully detailed engine in bmw sparkling grey
uprated speakers,headunit &amp not chavy
the list goes on and on  the car is mint and has not really been used in 3 years just moted and taxed then sat in garage there is 2 boxes of history
any ideas what to sell it for?if i a honest i really dont want to sell it as brought it more as investment  but the missus wont let my baby in it with lap belts or even if i got it converted so time to say bye

The only way to really find out is put it on for what you want for it and see whether it generates interest. I would think three and half to four grand based on that spec but I'm no expert. I think good cars do sell for good money, but it often takes a long time to shift them. Good luck with anyway!

guess its hard to say..  but what you paid for it plus what you put in, but you aint gonna get that , just try and get a figure you are happy with in the middle…

on another note, my little'uns 0-9month carrier had a base that took a lap belt. also the next seat up took a lap belt too.. its only now they are growing up that i worry about a lapbelt in the back seat.  (only when the missus is sat in the front - which isnt often)

Unfortunately it's not going to be worth what you have spent on it and won't sell if it's priced higher than comparable cars.

Advertise it at what you think it's worth, if it doesn't sell you will need to reduce the price in increments until you get a sale, unfortunately there's not much spare money about so it's a buyer's market.

Sorry to sound so downbeat and good luck with your sale.

My New Year's resolutions are: 1. Stop making lists. B. Be more consistent. 7. Learn to count.

Thanks for replys to be honest I can see it just being tucked away for awhile only other thing to do is is sell it with less upgrades I think ,shame as its never really been to a show or drove since it was done

As for putting a price on it… i don't see how you can on such a unique spec. Very hard to do so.

And you can get Baby seats that fit only with lap belt and they are just as safe.

Help you with listings for them if you need it.

agggh bu**er, i would have been on this, if i could have got it in my price range, but just about to post up as i went and looked at 3 in ireland on Tue and bought one and drove it back.

I have been flat out looking and researching for last month, so i could probably give you an accurate value of what its worth if you posted up some pics and mileage.

believe it or not i think down to the recesion and people having no money for luxurys the prices on sportlines now vs 2008-2010 is lower !

If you do have to sell, you maybe better selling the wheels etc sepeate but again if you find the right buyer with the right budget you could get roughly what you want for it.

I know of 3-4 people looking for sportlines at the mo, so there is buyers out there.

Realistically what would you be looking for, for it?

if you can keep it i would say keep it for a couple more years till prices start to rise, then it maybe worth more around the £'s you have put into it

Cheers
