Honest thoughts Required....

Hi folks,
Would really appreciate some honest thoughts  regarding my Cabby…
I've just bought my first watercooled Dub and it's a 1.5 Auto.. '83 GL.
Never had an auto before and although it seems ok..

Are they considered to be cr4p? 8O
How difficult/expensive would it be to convert to manual?

Any comments, gratefully received :wink:

nothing wrong with the auto's in fact some prefere it.  i got a 1.5 auto  that i'm converting to 1.6d manual but if u get on with auto no need to change it

It's pretty sound, except for the roof ( surprise eh?!) need new seals at the very least, hence it's under cover but I'll take some better photos if the sun ever shines again :wink:

They are spot on dubcherub, think of it this way you can drink a coke whilst driving, no need to ever take your hands off the wheel when round town and you can stroke the missus's leg all the time with no worries about gear changing.I love mine and can't fault it at all, the only time i would convert it to manual is if somethin went really wrong.

lets put it this way a mate of mine came up from down south for a weekend in his and it was the turning point in my car buying career.
we went all over the place in it and the highlight was when i got to drive from that moment on i had to have a mk1 golf cabby,  a few weeks later I bought this one, ok its manual and a gti but if it had not been for my mate with his auto cabby i would still be a zombie driving something like a ford escort  ops: welcome to the rest if you car driving career it will never be the same again..

I only had concerns because it's new territory for me… feel reassured now, will def. remain auto, til there's a good reason to change.
I absolutely love my Cabby…. just wish I'd got one years ago.
I'm gonna get the top down today and make the most of this one-off day of sunshine.
I'll hopefully get some decent pics too.

I did manage to have the top down yesterday and went for a cruise.
The more I drive it, the more I love it. I did put that spare hand to good use by the way.. :wink:
Just need to sort the front roof seals out this week.. once I find some.

Sometimes e bay has some if not put a post up in the wanted section on this site, try gsf they may be able to help.
