hi there, mk1 with no keys.......
guys iv got a small problem! i just bought a new mk1 tin top but it has no keys ops: need help with stering lock any ideas??

Hiya John, glad to see you're posting now :borg:, you'll have to put your project piccies up. Best move might be to drill out ignition barrel then get a new(ish) one at a later date.

I no longer have the Mk1!! I now whizz round in a Black 1990 3dr Mk2 GTi 8v but the roof doesn't fold back when the sun shines

borrow someone else's keys.
there all the same. haha
take the door lock off and go to your friendly local lock smith.
they can make a key to match that which should fit the ignition lock.

woah fella. not slating your idea just giving an alternative.
i like the fact i'm still on the original key. :dontknow:
think a lock smith will charge in the region of 20 notes to create a new key.
you'll need to know the key type though to make his/her life easier.
(i think it's AH :dontknow: )

had this problem myself once (broke my only key) did what novocaine said called an auto locksmith after i broke into the car and removed the door lock (3 screws) told him the type of key eg. ah or vb and he cut it too the barrel. good luck finding someone who cuts keys like that as it took me a while.....
