hi are golfs okay for everyday use

hi people i am new here i am thinking of getting a mk 1 golf 1600 gx with 66k miles on it .

but are mk 1 golfs reliable enough to be an everyday car

As with ANY car if you buy a good one then it can be used ss a daily car.

Up untill a few months ago mine was used every day.

66k sounds like a guddun, but these old girls will keep going forever…just need a bit of TLC every once in while

yeah youll love it. i think its a great daily and if it goes wrong there easy to fix and id say very cheap for parts. also cheap insurance and tax.

also i discovered that my cabby is a right motorway muncher. its great on the motorway cruising at 70 - 80 - well thats what ive been told ive only stuck to 70 as the law suggests  :wink:

oh right okay thank you guys yh atm i own a classic mini but i really want a golf lol and there is a guy who might be willing to swap with me it recently had a timing problem but its now sorted and just need body work tidying up but nothing major

Personally i reckon the tax is a complete rip off,alot more than a modern 1.6 at £215

Buy a modern car and pay less tax and be boring or drive a Mk1 and turn heads… its a no brainer. The diesel is a daily. 66k? It barely broken in..  :mrgreen:

Its not so much the mechanical side its the bodywork,being an old vehicle and being used on a daily basis together with our wonderful  British climate the dreaded tin worm will soon raise its ugly head

I used my Mk1 Golf GX til Jan this year as a daily and was fine, only reason its off the road is I want it to be mint so I am restoring it.

By the way a GX is a 1.5-if its running right (can be prone to carb problems) they are very ecomomical!

Just follow the buying guide(s) and you'll be fine.
