heres a laugh..

On the thursday before stoner park my car decided to fail its MOT. Had the MOT carried out at a local VW dealership, this is what they quoted me for parts and labour…

Tyre - ?36.06
Headlight ?90.45
Both rear shockers ?234.41
CV Gaiter ?163.91
Both front shocks and springs ?649.77

Some of these are very stringent, but fair enough.
The thing that gets me is people, especially old people who have owned the one mk1 golf/polo from new, would take this cost for gospel and would let them do the work and then be stung with a bill for over ?1000.

Any of you had any laughable quotes?

Its no wonder good cars are being scrapped . Labour costs are astronomical .

You have no more than ?250 worth of parts what did you do in the end ?

ordered the parts through GSF, picking up today and having a friend fit them.

headlight ?15
CV less than ?10
rear shockers ?40

havent ordered the rest as yet.

I also asked for a quote from the vw dealership for a electric window motor - ?400!!

I asked for a fuel metering head once, ?625-ish!

And that was without the connections for the fuel lines which were ?60 a peice.

I got the air flow/fuel flow meter complete off ebay for ?35 :D

Possible because they'd have had to drain the fluid out?

there was no fluid in it. pipe came off 20 yards down the road so i just let the car roll down the hill into the dealers. I know they will have added the cost of coolant into the bill but still.....

My mate has a rear wheel bearing go on his Raylle the other day, cost ?190 cause it's a pain in the arse, plus they wrcked and ABS sensor!

I'd never do wheel bearings myself, way too much effort without the proper equip!

you do have to get it right or they will need changing again within a year

rallye ones are a pain full stop but not ?190 of hassle 8O

I think it was more of a case of he couldn't be botherd!

He's in aerospace engineering, so money tends to float in and out of his hands quite often lol.

His Raylle is his daily driver..!

I had a few quotes to weld a bracket onto a custom back-box, 1st was ?75-?90, 2nd was ?68, and 3rd was ?20 and a pie from Gregg's on the way in!

I'm glad I'm too tight to part with money, good excuse for me to have a pie too!
