Help with confirming its a sportline

Hi
Wonder if anyone can help me. Am asking for help on behalf of my brother who has seen a mk1 golf badged as a sportline but just wants to know what to look for on the car to confirm it def is what it says and not just a replica version with some wheels and decals added. If anyone can reply with some info that would be much appreciated

Thanks Darren

Main one will be red needles on the instruments

Then:

Wheels
Seats
Trim (door cards and rear side cards)
It will be red or black
Decals

Apart from those, I don't think there's any actual differences, ie its no different under the bonnet than another Golf GTI convertible of the era.

Not just red needles, the speedo housing is grey/silver. thats unique to the sportline.

Also the only GTIs available in the last 2 years were sportlines and rivages, so the earliest reg it can be is an H, the latest an L, the majority are J and K reg..

It should state 'Sportline' on the V5. All other identifiable parts could easily have been fitted to a car from a stolen or accident damaged/written off Sportline.

As Walt said, it should be from H reg to K reg, if it's a D reg it's definately fake.
