Help tp buy MK1 GTI Convertible!

My boyfriend is a MK1 enthusiast and as a birthday present i wanted to suprise him with a GTI convertible. I have found one in Kent that looks really nice and i am prepared to organise the AA/RAC to do a mechanical check but i wondered if anybody on here knows any Mark1 enthusiasts who check over cars. I am obviously prepared to pay for somebodys time i just want a bit of guidance. I have checked over the buying guide and things to look out for but would prefer someone with specialised knowledge to point me in the right direction?? Thanks! Deby

I'm sure someone will pop up to offer help.  Sadly I'm in Northants so miles away.  It's no guarantee that the car is good you do know that right?… they can make you aware of things by buying it is completely your choice… you could drive three meters and it breaks… can't be their fault  :wink:
