What kind of "proof" do they want?

Hi Fella,
Whats your year of registration?
There is no such thing as a Sportline Wolfsburg Edition Cabby.
There is The Sportline and a Wolfsburg Edition, these are seperate models in there own rights.
All the Cabbies were made at the Karmann Factorty in Osnabruk, not ever at the wolfsburg plant.
The sportlines were limited in number around Europe and the UK.
The wolfsberg edition, likewise and was big in the USA.

Just a few Q's
what colour is it?
What year of Reg is it?
Pictures of the car?
Sometimes they do get wrongly registered by the dealers, however I would want to know the history of the car.
You can buy a birth certificate from VW for the car, but you would need the VIN NUMBER etc.
have you cross referenced the VIN NUMBER with the V5, to make sure it's been a Write off, and then been registered under another identity?
put your Reg in the link below and see wahtbit comes up with.

they just want general proof of the model

Yeah but what's "general proof"? There is no club valuation service. I doubt forum posts will be enough proof. By all means browse here, Auto Trader, eBay and Pistonheads for similar cars for sale, but also bear in mind that many ebay auctions fall through at sale, and that cars are often advertised way beyond what they sell at, if indeed they sell at all. So be ready to have the valuation you put, taken with a pinch of salt. Why not assume the insurance assessor will determine if its a sportline or not - after all the cars are somewhat distinctive etc.

This site was posted up recently it should give you some info, but not really sure what the insurance company will accept.  I would ask them for clarification. You can confirm what yours was/is with the birth certificate, but it will take a couple of months.

I can do a HPI on the car for you. See what that says. It normally gives modle details. Will need reg and mileage. PM if you want.

The only cabriolets available in the last couple of years were sportlines, rivage and clippers, so if you have it's reg and it is a J plate or later, it is red or black, then it is highly likely to be a sportline.

Quartette and GTI were also current models at this time.

As its a import it could be anything.

Pics would pin it down

I thought the last standard GTI cab was on an H reg?..  :dontknow:

….which goes to show, the best route might not be relying on a forum to identify/value the car. I've suggested many times that the club offers some kind of official valuation service, the offer is still there.

And how do we know this?.. I have brochures which show rivage, clipper and sportline for the final years.. There were no ordinary GTI's in these brochures and the quartet was earlier.. The only mention of a cat was on the rivage leather which I am not sure how many actually had the cat.. The latest GTI cab in standard guise that I have ever seen is an H reg.. Do we have any pics of a standard GTI later than that?.. Then I will gladly give up..  :dontknow:

Just done a bit of searching on tinterweb and find that the quartet was from 86 to 93 in europe.. That being the case, Funk star you would seem to be correct, however, I am sure in the uk it was only sportline, rivage and clipper in the last 2 years..

Shouldn't it just say on the registration document?

If it doesn't have this on there normally, or if it should and yours doesn't due to being mis-registered by the dealer, then you might not be able to prove it.
I don't know if those "Birth Certificates" carry and real meaning or value?
