Help! Sell or restore? A468GLK Mk1 Campaign in black
Ready for a laugh?
I bought this in 2005 and drove it to my garage mot'd and complete with the idea of restoring it for my son for his first car (I had one in my late teens and it was the best car I've ever owned!). Guess what, the insurance company woudnt look at him! Nore could we get him insured on the wife's 4motion or my pheaton - so he got a new Boggo golf 1.4 …. Cheaper to buy that than get him insured on our other cars.
Now it's been sitting in the garage of years, partly stripped, just bring it out to turn wheels and engine. Ive got all the spares I'd like to put on, new rear panel etc, but just not the time to do anything (or the welding skills).
Now, looking at it realistically and working out I only did 800 miles in the last 3 years in my Atom - (I've just not got the time to play with my great toys) I think I'm going to have to let someone else help me resort it or sell it.
Trouble it, just moved it out of the garage and fallen in love with it again!
Any ideas what I should do? Any good reasonably priced restorers around Pontefract West Yorkshire ?
Thanks Simon

You have had it for this long and quite clearly love the car, so if you have the space to keep it why dont you just work on it now and then and in a few years it will be done? A project doesnt have to be done in 6 months, they can and do take years!

Money rich, time poor - it happens. Why not ask a Mk1 specialist to do a re-build, then get out when you can and enjoy the drive? Sell the Atom to pay for the build (~8k) and keep the change for some beer !

My golfs been sat for 2 years and I've hardly touched it till recently, but slowly it's taking shape and I'll get it done eventually. I've promised to never sell the golf (again) as the last time I sold it I spent 3 years trying to get it back…

Sell it to someone who will restore it and cherish it one question though, if your kid couldnt get insured for a mk1 golf how did you expect to get insured for a 4motion (v6 4wd) or a phaeton?
