Help! Letter from the DVLA
Hi all,
I need some assistance… I received a letter from the DVLA today which stated that some of the details noted on the recent MOT did not match the details recorded on my V5C document - specifically, the chassis number and paint code.
I probably shouldn't post my whole chassis number here, however, the VIN plate has the following (where * indicates a number):
WVWZZZ17ZDW606***.
My V5C document only has the following:
17DW606***
I also have a sticker attached to the inside of the boot, on the rear panel, which has the chassis number as:
wvwzzz17zDW606***
… where the lower case letters are in subscript (i.e. smaller and slightly greyed out).
In addition, my car is metallic grey, yet the V5C notes the car as being blue in colour.
The paint code noted on the sticker described above is LY7Z, which I am informed by my local VW coachworks is "Meteor Silver", which sounds about right.
Can someone please confirm whether or not the full 17 digit code shown above is the full chassis number, or whether the shorter 10 digit code is the correct number to be shown on the V5C.
Also, if anyone else happens to know what paint code is what, can you please confirm that LY7Z is indeed "Meteor Silver"?
Thanks in advance!!
Cheers,
AndyC

I got that letter too for the old gti and my beetle.
Nothing to worry about, The station that done the mot probably had to manually input the details for your mot and the dvla are just wanting you to verify the numbers.

Yeah, sounds like the tester had a touch of dyslexia. Your number on the car is correct format so I guess you just have to inform them of that. As for the colour....greys, blues and silvers often get confused.

The DVLA are idiots, that car has existed for nearly 25 years and just because a slap dash mot tester didnt form fill correctly, why they come to you? best they contact him really and tell him to sort himself out and learn to record details of vin numbers really!!! they have all the information on their computers and paper records already from previous mot`s

I take it the MOT tester filled in the certificate from the VIN plate, in which case he is correct to use the full 17 digit VIN. It is the V5 that is incorrect - quite often VW dealers completed the first registration not giving the the spacer characters, so not the fault of the DVLA.
The paint code is not familiar though, I thought the GX grey was Atlas Grey Metallic (LP7V) not Meteor Metallic (LY7Z) - both are Mk1 colours though.

yeah suppose :dontknow: but the WVWZZZ PART IS COMMON TO ALL THE MODELS of mk1 and even later golfs so i dont see how there could be a problem? just some DVLA mong turning letters out for the hell of it, like they keep sending me tax reminders for cars i have never seen, let alone owned, I ring them up and all they say is "isnt it" "whats that then" "yuki dah" goch goch goch" "put it in an envelope see and send it back isnt it boyo" and i say poke it, put your records right and im not paying for a postage stamp for your mistake!!!! i thought computers were the be and end all of monitoring? surely if the cars registered taxed and motd they know whos got it!!!! bafoons!

I work at an mot station and a lot of my friends have vw's . I seem to come accross this a lot with the vdubs where i put exact details off the vehicle, and the computer tells me im wrong and to check again .
After this point the only option is to confirm the details are correct as to what i can see or abbandon test .
Ive also had this with other motors but mainly v.w .
