Have I got big PROBLEMS?
I would be grateful for some help please.
I have just brought my first GTI MK1, chuffed
I brought it on ebay with out looking at it, silly thing to do. :redfaced:
The first thing that I am concerned about is the bonnet arm on the passenger side seems to have become detached from its bracket that is welded on to the bulkhead. The person I brought it of said it needed a bolt replacing but having investigated it it seems the bracket is rusted out and there is no hole left to bolt the bonnet arm back on.
Is this fixable or am I going to have to give up on my project before ive even started, it seems very difficult to gain access to the bonnet arm bracket.
I hope I can fix this as I am looking forward to starting a projects thread and getting stuck in to hopefully giving this GTI a longer life.
Thanks
Sam
Sorry but not very good photos of the bonnet arm hanging down, I haven't been able to get a photos of the rusted bracket.

if its the later any competent welder should be able to sort it out in less than a few hours…..even if the inner wing has gone i wouldnt say its worth giving up on the car providing the rest of it is solid. the beauty of were it is is the weld wont have to be pretty as noone will see it so a patch would suffice.

Bracket
The problem Ive got is the bolt hole in the bracket under the scuttle has totally rusted away meaning I haven't got anything to attach the bonnet arm to.
There is a filled in hole on the scuttle right above where the bracket is(see photo), which at first made me think the bracket was welded to the scuttle.
It seems like a nightmare for anyone to try and weld a new bracket on, let alone trying to get it lined up.
I am feeling that it's not worth looking at the rest of the car until I can find a solution to this problem, but having done various google searches it doesn't seem that anyone else has had this problem or if they have it hasn't been documented.
