Good VW Specialist in West Sussex?

Hi!

My Golf 1.6 GTi has a serious running issue that I'm unable to cure myself. It's overfuelling really badly, and I'm currently getting around 70 miles to ?20 of fuel!

Does anyone know a good Volkswagen specialist in West Sussex at all?

Any help appreciated!

Ben

tbh, not worth taking to any type of specialist i.e. the main dealers, they will cost you so much money, when any competent mechanic should be able to readily sort the problem for you far far cheaper, for parts, www.mk1golf.co.uk ask crazyquiff, or your local motor factors etc, wouldn't have thought that most mechanics couldn't fix for you mate

thanks

Is that about 15mpg?, if you are booting it everywhere foot to the floor that's what you'll get.

You needs someone who knows how a 30 year old k jet works!

I'd talk to Andy at Golfmeister first. He's in brighton 07801 477793

I think Bens Cab is in you area aswell and knows a bit about fuel injection.

Also, G Werks are somewhere over your way. Heard good stuff but never used em.

Hi and thanks for the responses.

I know that something is definately wrong with the car, it has always felt down on power (slower than my sisters Saxo 1.4 Furio!) and like I say is definately overfuelling. If you put your hand near the exhaust with it running you can feel fuel petrol condense on your hand!!! I used to get around 120 miles to ?20 of fuel, which is around 23mpg. Now I'm getting 70 miles to that ?20 which is like 15 - 17mpg I think!! I thought a well set up Mk1 GTi would do around 30mpg +???

I think it needs a cylinder head rebuild to begin with, when I start her I get a great big cloud of blue smoke, but it's not there whilst driving so I suspect worn valve guides??

One other thing I have noticed, when you turn the ignition on, the fuel pump runs continuously. It doesn't 'prime' then cut out, it simply continues to whirr??

I've never really been 'booting' the car as I've always felt that something wasn't quite right with her, you can feel she misfires but I just thought it was where the cylinder head may need a rebuild. But now the fuel economy has become this bad I think it's beyond my ability to repair?

I knew about G Werks but thought they only did G60's???

Hey Ben!

Sorry I've already booked it in at G Werks for them to take a look. I'll take it from there and we'll see.

I don't think I've ever met you. I did used to work at Halfords in Bognor Regis so if you ever frequent that hell hole it's possible I suppose! I used to meet a guy with a pea green Mk1 1.8T a few times when I worked there?
