going to kill my car!!
I've got a really important interview down at bournemouth arts uni tomorrow to see if i get on the course, bin and put 40 quid of fuel in my car tonite, parked up at home to a strong smell of fuel.
It's bloody leaking out of the flexi joint between the filler pipe and the tank its only a pipe grip with a screw driver adjuster, but ive not got a decent jack and living on a hill i dont trust a crappy normal one so waiting for the AA to come out at the mo

Oh dear… your brake line may be corroded (mine was). I cut the corroded part off and shoved it further into the flexi then tightened. Make sure it is the flexi mate as mine looked like it was that but it actually wasn't.
Feel for you bud especially after filling it up.

I dono whether to take it as good or bad news, the holes in the top of my petrol tank so the guy from the aa was just like well u might as well just get driving it and use some of the fuel. Then dont fill it to the top until u've changed the tank lol

So it's rusted a hole in it? You sure it's not the filler neck somewhere?… that would explain why it doesn't appear until you fill it up as it doesn't normally reach that high :dontknow:

How the hell have you got £40 of fuel to fill the tank 8O 8O Filled mine at the end of last month (was just in the red) and stopped filling @ £50  The petrol pump hadn't even started 'clicking' Further advise, if you smoke don't throw your fag out the window when at the lights
I no longer have the Mk1!! I now whizz round in a Black 1990 3dr Mk2 GTi 8v but the roof doesn't fold back when the sun shines

There was abit of fuel in it already, and it didnt completely fill the tank. just near enough to reach the top when it sloshed about with me stop starting. I guess it could be the filler neck that didnt look in too bad a condition tho. To be fair whether its the tank or the filler neck i guess the tanks got to come out to find out but yeah its definately something rusted.
Dont worry i dont smoke
Brings up the choices tho of do i replace it with a gti tank and start and engine conversion….

if you cant see a hole in the top of the tank Id start looking for other causes before going to the expense of changing it.
from experience places to check are both the seal and connection at the top of the sender gauge. Check out the post below, after fixing could still smell fuel and then replacing the sender gauge seal fixed that as well.

Haha i no tell me about it! its more just whether i can afford the rest of the conversion I'm not mechanically minded at all although my dads mate used to be a mechanic so i'm sure he could help me out. I guess I could buy the tank now and just sit on it for a while, well not literally. Altho it could make a unusual coffee table….
