I had a feeling that would happen. usually does. Atleast its being kept in the family!

The white 1.3 4 door might be for sale next year. Restoring it as we speak :) Although once its finished I'll probably end up not being able to let it go.

how much have you been quoted and whats your age?

Dont ask what your club can do for you, but what can you do for your club?

If a mk1 golf is expensive for you to insure then I dred to think what that bike would be.

i was quoted £1443.76 a year for the golf where as the bike is £805 a year but to tell you the truth i dont get the same feeling with the bike as  i do with the golf, that feeling of having the biggest grin in the world when you clap eyes on it when you go out in the morning and i think thats one of the reasons why im glad my dad has it as once ive done my bike test i'll be doing driving lessons so that i can get into a mk1 asap and im 17 going on 18 so that maybe explains the insurance.

8O  I payed £1400 on insurance for the red one in my sig when I was 17. Its a 1.1! So really thats a good quote and I doubt you will find many cars with cheaper insurance than that. I was expecting you to have been quoted £2500 or something stupid like that. But looks like the bike is a good plan since your saving quite a bit there

But try aviva and elephant if you havent already. Aviva gave me a great quote this year with my parents as named drivers

i know it was a good quote and im still to this day trying to work out why it was so cheap but i'll be using the bike till i pass my car test then i'll hopefully get behind the wheel of a mk1 :)

I got mine at 17 with liverpool Victoria for £1200 on a 1500cc GL. I don't think it really matters too much about engine size differences as long as its not a GTI if anyones thinking that they are limited to a 1.1.
Its a nippy bugger too!

ive been discussing everything with my parents and what im doing is the full bike test so that i have a full bike licence and then i'll be starting lessons asap so that i can get behind the wheel of the golf and it was with ibuyeco insurance i got the quote and that was on a price comparison site so it would probably be cheaper going direct to them :)

i do seriously wish i could afford to get the car on the road now but once ive done my bike test im starting driving lessons so that i can drive the golf asap as im desperate to drive it now and i hope to hell the insurance is alot cheaper then

Vaguely remember about a thread where someone's insurance was £xxxx at age 17 with provisional licence. And when they passed their test, it went UP not DOWN. I guess the reasoning being, as a provisional you'll be accompanied by a much safer driver, and once you have your own licence, you're ironically a much greater risk.

thats the first time ive heard of that happening,i might have the golf by the end of next year if im lucky and pass my test   but bike first i need transport :)

Makes perfect sense to me - I assume your quote you received was with things now, ie provisional? That might explain why it was lower than other people's at a similar age (but with full licence).

no it was full licence,0 ncb, student and working as a shoe repairer and no modifications at all aswell so i was lucky to get such a cheap quote but at this moment in time i cant afford to insure the car and well im going to need some form of transport for nipping about so thats why i have the bike until i pass my driving test for the cars then im stealing the cabby back of my dad (but he doesnt know yet) and then that should be me sorted and the car definitely isnt for sale ever   as i just love it to much to part with it
