Gear stick is hanging down

Hello everyone

My gear stick has fallen out the bottom of my car I can select gears but don't want to drive it!
If I look underneath the car there is somthing hanging down,
Any ideas of what's happens and what i need to do?

Yes mate I do know what has happened,  At the base of your gearstick is a ball and socket joint, this has split into two allowing the stick to drop down.  Its a really easy fix! get yourself a gear linkage repair kit off ebay and then have a read through this

You won't need to do it all but its easy and will improve the feel of your gears no end, all you will need to do is the bit at the stick to get yours right again

also halfway down the gearstick there should be a circlip in a groove.it is possoble as mine for it to become loose and come out of said groove and drop the gearstick

Everyone's on the right track, but first, have a look under the car where the gear stick goes through the floor - the gear stick could have either just dropped out of the surround in the car, but is still safe in the cup underneath of the car - or the cup might have become detached from the car entirely, therefore the linkage has literally fallen through the car. Common Lancia problem!
