So found a mk1 non runner although engines fitted no interior which is fine was going to rip it out anyhow cars exterior looks pretty good although as i now very little at what im looking at
what should i be looking for when i pick this car up?

Getting it for £330 1.6 Engine 110k on the clock which is not a problem engine will likely be swapped.

so back to the question what should i be looking for when i go to collect this car?

body work wise, check under the carpet (if its there), spare wheel well, under the arches etc. look at the seals round windows/sun roof, check vin plate matches up. It's hard to know how much detail to go into without knowing how bigger project this is gonna be :)

But just take your time, i bought a 1600 gti, 55000, non runner, for £1500. Although a good deal, i later found that the tool that owned the car before had filled the front pannel with about an inch of filler and sprayed over it after a nice smack at the front. did a good job at hiding it, but hated knowing it was there.

you could do a HPI check on it also if you want to get the cars full history.

Check bodywork mainly mate, arches, inner arches, sills.

At 330 you can't complain much in fairness, though the more parts you get with it the better as small parts often missing like trims etc go for silly money :(

The sills are little bit rusted the arches are rather showing quite a bit of rot there's a small hole near the petrol cap and one or two bits of rot on the inside. soooo don't now how much that will cost anyone now how much welding is these days

Be cheaper to learn and plod along yourself matey or find a friend who's helpful

If you was closer I'd be happy to do the welding for you :)

Still not end of world, its peanuts for a mk1.

Tin top or cabby?

Im in aldershot mate and bought a mk1 for similar money with similar faults, itnseemed a really good one but turned out 3 layers of rear arches, filler and fibrefill everywhere lol

£330 is a steal for any mk1, providing it isnt completely bare/ rotted. If you decide it is too much work, you would easily get your money back

Yes im on fb, yeah sounds fun, mine is definatly getting done its at the painter now sitting in his unit being prepped and painted after 4 months of me reconstructing it with new panels. It should be back with me next week some time so then just headliner, windows, engine and toys to put on andi can drive my golf for the 2nd time ever lol. And strangely after all the rot is gone it still has mot left from when it was dangerously bodged! Crazy.
