First MK1

I'm wondering if you guys could help me, I have been offered a MK1 golf convertable 1998 1.8 , it claims to be a GTI, although I wouldn't know, I'm a complete novice with VW, I looked through the buyers guide earlier and the car has got full cream leather, and door cards like the rivage, it has been fully re sprayed very very well and has a new roof, no rust under side, full service history with about 135k on it. how would I identify it what exactly it is? any help would be greatfuly recieved!!

Apart from early pre-1982 1.6 GTIs all later 1.8 GTIs will have MFA, LCD trip computer in dash and switch on stalk. Non GTIs will just have a LCD clock.

1983 Mars Red 1.8 Golf GTI
1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

If its just a standard GTI, what sort of price should I pay, I've been told I can get it for 900, which I thought wasn't that bad.

If the leather interior is good, then you'll probably get around 400-500 just for the leather on fleabay, so I'd say if you cant get it for 900 its a b****y good price
