First GTI

Hi

I've been lurking and looking for a mk1 GTI for a while and finally bought one. She needs a bit of body work to get to tip top but looks pretty solid solid so far (only had her a week).

She is an 83 GTI in black, sunroof, MFA - think I've figured out most of the optional extra codes (with the really useful info in this forum) but can't see what 'A45' is (think it must be the dual front lights or the mfa - anyone know?)

The plan is to restore her slowly (though she is a reasonable driver right now) so I'm sure i will be on the look out for parts etc - where do you guys rate for parts? She has a replacement engine the original was DX172334 - if anyone knows where this engine is I'd be interested in try to reunite it with the car (though realize this is a massive longshot!)

I will post some pics as soon as I gt to grips with the forum - always loved the original GTI and so pleased I've now got one.

Hopefully I will be a more active member now and am sure I will meet some of you at meets etc

good luck with it mate, as for parts i would recommend becoming a full member, it will pay for it self with the discount you will get at GSF and ECP, then theres the massive saving on insurance, best £15 you will ever spend mate :D

get some pics up :D

Sounds like we're in a pretty similar situation. Have wanted a mk1 since before I could drive and finally, 6 years after passing my test I am the proud owner of a black '83 GTI.
Brought it home from London on sunday after travelling down from yorkshire overnight saturday and managed the 200+ miles with ease.
Needs a bit of tidying up but hopefully in a year or so will be in top condition.

Barberry - the black GTI was it the one on eBay? That looked nice but I couldn't get to view it?

Yeah it was on ebay. I was highest bidder, didn't meet reserve but contacted the guy after and sorted a price.
It's in decent nick, just needs tidying up a bit.
