first golf mk1 help ??

hi basicly im 16 looking for my first car and obviously the car to pick is a  mk1 golf in the future im planning to restore it like

i want a 1.3 driver jst to start of with cos its cheap on tax and ins

im later planning to put the 1.8T 20v in and spend a lot of money into it

but i need help on things to buy ?

im looking for anything other thn  red

id prefer one with mot and tax so my dad can drive it home 4 me

I'd forget about the 20vT for now - unless you have ?5000 for the conversion and ?5000 for the insurance!

Since you're upping the performance so much, and making significant changes to the wiring, its not so important which car you'd start with, ie being GTI isn't that important. But this also assumes you're changing brakes, suspension, wheels, tyres, etc too. One thing might be that you'd want the dashboard to have a rev counter, so a GL or above? Unsure if CL have a rev counter?)

welcome aboard mate, whatever you're planning on spending on doing an engine conversion and the like, treble it and you might get somewhere near. plans/ideas soon get out of control!

alrite mate.
im in the same boat as yew, im also looking for a mk1 driver at 16. but being as they are so hard to find might i reccomed you broaden your search? you might want to consider looking for the 1.1 models aswell, (they are also a bit cheaper on insurance).
i can tell you now finding a good one is no easy task but it will b worth it. many have alot of rust.
