Finally got the wife's present ready...

So its been a frantic couple of months but with 4 days to go the car is ready…
For those who I haven't already bored with this..its a christmas surprise….its the car the wife's always wanted…"mk1 cabriolet"…incidentally i never understood the desire to own one until actually buying this and i love it also…(at some point may even get myself a gti..lol)

So jobs done…

• replacement drivers lower seat squab
  replacement drivers seat back material
  new steering wheel
  new aerial
  bloomin good clean (although still some marks here and there to sort)
  general service (filters)
  rocker breather vent de-caked
  new alternator
  sorted fan belt catching on belt cover
  sorted loose carpet fitting around drivers door aperature
  resprayed bonnet due to severe lacquer delamination (this was a disaster job as i bought the wrong colour)

OK easy enough to store the car at a mates or something, but the time you must have put in - she must be thinkin you are having an affair!

The car is looking great. Bonnet is not too bad in those pics. I'll put money on her not noticing!

Well I have been restoring a mini for a few months (@ a garage at my parents), so every sunday is "car day", and she goes up to the outlaws with the kids…so she doesn't know a thing…
I feel so bad about the bonnet I will tell her anyway, but your right she may not notice straight away..
As far as filing her….hey thats an idea…..may do…either way i'll let you all know how it went…

yes she is….the badges we refurbed with a kit from chortle…(forgot to mention this earlier) look loads better than what was on there before…

Tell her bonnets fine, but the rest of the cars colour is wrong and you have to change them all to match (i didnt notice in pics to be fair)!!!will confuse her !!  8O   :wink:  :wink: a truley great present indeed.

Well the deed was done and she was well impressed…..

Unfortunately the battery which had been on charge and went onto the car working suddenly was completely dead when my dad tried to get it out onto the drive on the morning of the surprise..so it took the edge off slightly as i couldn't drop the roof for her…

but she loves it and set about texting all her friends stating what she had had, which I can imagine really annoyed them all as she was REALLY gloating….

Thanks everyone for helping with tips to enable me to get it ready…..

(still have a battery problem, which will be the subject of my next post..lol)
