Engine conversion questions to 2.0 8v MK3 golf engine

Hi guy's

I have recently purchased a mk1 sportline from a bloke who has since left the country, this car has had an engine from a mk3 2.0 8v fitted, now I am not sure if the original gearbox is still there or if has been changed for a mk3 one or if that setup is possible at all. I have spoken to the engineering company who did the engine build/conversion and they seems to remember fitting a 2.0 8v mk3 long block engine with a G-cam and a few other things that I can't remember (too technical), my questions are based around the conversion itself, so I assume this car have a mk3 ecu? and the fuel injection has been should be changed as well? Anything else I should ask about regarding the engine conversion process as I bit concerned if things go wrong later on then I able to source the correct parts etc. I will be collecting the car this Friday so will post up a picture of the engine if that helps.

Thanks

you will have no problems if its had a 2.0l long block fitted all that will have been done is replaced the block, its a really straight forward conversion the injection will be the standard mk1 set up and pretty sure the gbox will be the mk1 (no  advantage in changing gti box) so no ecu and all mk1 bits should be still there, if its done properly the mk1 distributer should still be in place, mk3 ones are different. i did this conversion on mine and it went like stink really nice to drive,

Thanks for the reply, can sleep  easy now! I will post some pictures of the engine after I collect the car on Friday, hopefully plenty of smilley faces as well.

ive done a conversion similar but start with a mk3 block, skimmed down to my own spec and uses the long rods with dirrerent crankbut fits in bay with no height ghange. gives 2 litre still, and uses a eurospec custom built big vavle, big port head, standard dizzy needs mk3 gear fitted.you can ghange injector seats and wiring and run mk3 fuel system if you want, but it wont look like a mk1 under the bonnet no more.goes like stink too.jst like the other bloke said.sounds like a rally car though, even after taking off 4branch manifolds.ps,i used the early mk2 gearbox and put the mk1 stubs on it as i didnt have mk cv inners at the time, seemed a bit better due to the fact it was low mileage box, plus limited slip diff from quaffe keeps the torque steer under control.

That sounds like complex stuff to me mate   :D

All I know is that I have bought another mk3 2.0 8V engine and my cousin is going to remove the K-jet injection and use the mk3 injection using standalone management based on the new generation South African MK1's, I want to keep my original engine though as the whole motor has been redone completely and I have all the paperwork just going to use the fuel rail and inlet etc from the purchased engine.  :dontknow:

i'd just change the Block and if money will stretch a ported head goes well with a 2.0L the K-Jet is more than up to it. :)
