emissions set up in Manchester

Hello everybody, my golf failed it's mot today on it's emissions.

I don't know enough to about the fuel injection system to tweak it myself so I was wondering if anyone could recommend a garage in Manchester that could do it for me?

Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello, I don't know any specialist garages unfortunately, but I can recommend making sure you get the timing set up properly before looking at the mixture control - when I did mine everything was all over the place. Went from 25mpg to 40mpg after careful set up :)

Whereabouts in Manchester are you?

Passed her re-test today.

I took her down to Awesome GTI over the weekend, the guy checked the timing and made the mixture leaner using the hex screw in the metering head, cost me £60.

Considering it cost me the best part of £400 to get her through last year I have to say I'm happy.  :D

I've just had a look at the printout from the emissions test and my CO reading has gone down from 5.26% to 0.8%.

The engine sounds a bit rough to me now, is my fuel mixture too lean?

For £60, I'd hope they will give you a free return visit and tweak it back up to about 1.5-2%, which is where K-Jet engines seem to run best at. But 0.8% is still within the official spec, so they might say "no issue" even if you subliminally sense it.

Don't rely on "sounding a bit rough" as a measure of the mixture, but by all means rely on the printout from the MoT station.
