Embarrassed to even ask but...

Its become a question that has been troubling me for some time  but I've put off asking for fear of  :twisted:  :redfaced:  :twisted:

But why did VW call my car a Golf??? (sounding like a 7 year old, but no other way to put it)

for those who have not seen it.

They had a bit of a "wind" fixation in the 80's and 90's hence the scirocco, bora and probably others I cannot rememeber..  :mrgreen:

So Golfstrom or Gulf-stream to us, became Golf. Thanking you. I wont ask how that then became Rabbit!!

Golf, polo, scirocco are all names of winds.  Touareg is a tribe, tiguan was put to the public vote in germany, and is a cross betweem tiger and iguana, eos is the daughter of the sun god helios, and thats all i can remember at the moment.
