drum brakes on the front of a mk1...

Whilst looking through a 1977 golf brochure the other day i spotted this on the familar "owning a volkswagen has its advantages" page. It looks like this early mk1 has drum brakes on the front?

Did any official UK cars have front drums? It was only 7 years before the Golf was introduced that VW stopped using 6volt electrics…..

Drum brakes on my old Beetle and Mini were fine when adjusted properly.

My 12/74 build date 75 Swallowtail has front drums also. Never knew the later years had them…

are these drums available anywhere should you need them?

Drums were only on 74/75 1.1 engine models for the continent.

The drums are no longer available - refurb only!
