drove my 1st gti 2day. found the clutch heavy and sticky

i love the look of the cars but the clutch sort of put me off. it was very heavy and slow and seemed sticky. is this the same with all gtis?

btw it was a mk2 but i assume it would be similar to the mk1 gti clutch

It depends what you're used to - you'd need to try a selection of different Mk1 Golfs to know what they're like in general. I've driven a number of them and the clutch can feel different from car to car. Well set up, its reasonably light. Are you used to a car with servo assisted hydraulic clutch?

im used to the new clio sport and bmws. the clutch seemed to just come in with a bang. like couldnt start off without a bit of a jump

not as quick as i thought though

sounds like it could have had a worn clutch cable so it wasn't giving you a smooth apllication and was sticking a bit easy fix….

as for not being as quick as you thought it would be its not all about the speed they are just fun cars to drive chuck one into a corner and then see what you think!

maybe its just something you have to get used to. but the brakes worked just about so didnt want to be doin any great speed into a corner

nice looking car though

the mk1 cant be much if any quicker than the mk2

If your used to driving cars with hydraulic clutches then it's going to feel a lot different.  The one you drove may have a really old cable on making it a bit jerky, they shouldn't be too bad.
