Don't suppose anyone could shed some light on this..?

Hey!

I don't understand how and why VW built some grilles to house four lights, and some to only house 2.

Does the GTI only have 2 lights?

Someone please clarify!

All the Golfs before the GTI had 2 headlamps…. The GTI comes along and after a few off the line…gets red grille trim but still the two headlights…
A set of driving lights were offered as an optional extra to make sure people using all that extra speed at night could see hedges…
Campaign got the extra fog light units as standard but these again were an option on all later Golf mk1s
The extra lights were standard on Mk2s because of safety and looks.
Personally all the older German cars had poor lights, always a gripe of my Dads with his BMWs thats why the early 3 and 5 series had extra on the faster models….
