Do I keep it original?

Hi all, I'm stuck in a dilemma!!

I have a 1991 Golf Karmann cabriolet 1.8i (which apparently has a GTI engine?) I bought the car in Western Australia and imported it into the UK myself. The car is in excellent original condition with no rust, power roof etc..
Question is do I changed the engine for a 16v because I want more speed/power or do i keep the car original and try and modify the engine it has. I dont want to de-value the car.

I'm just not sure what to do  :dontknow:

Because my other car is a MK4 GT TDI 150 and the step down gets a little frustrating at times.

This is my import

Leave it standard , enjoy open air motoring in a classic motor . Looks far too nice to modify .

Get the MK4 chipped , go quicker in that .

Cheers………………

leave it standard, you'll reget it of you mess with it.

If you must just do stuff you can't see, cam, head, filtre etc…

Was it expensive to import ?

It cost me around ?900 and waited 6 weeks before it arrived in Southamton. I lived there for a while so I bought the car to use and couldn't bring myself to part with it. That was 5 years ago. I have been looking at a Schrick cam but not sure which one to go for, Any suggestions? plus it has a cat because of the strict CO2 laws over there.

Leave standard vote from me…Well, in appearance anyway…

I noticed the rear boot lid brake light 'a la' US spec……

Any interior spec. or engine differences to Euro cars??

Changes / Differences to Euro, I'm not sure because i've never owned / driven another and never really had a look around one. It has a power roof which still has the Karmann No. sticker on it, I put some leccy windows in and had to put a fog light on it. Changed the speedo from Km to Mph (I still have the original speedo) Other than that i assume its the same mate.

with it being a 1.8 anyway there is no chassis mods for 16v so stick a 16v in and keep yer 8v incase you want to stick it back in later
