Brick acid is great for completely stripping parts. Used it on all my engine parts ( see my thread for the results) including nuts and bolts before zinc plating.
Bear in mind parts will rust very quickly once stripped with acid so will need prepping straight away. I used Eastwood metal prep, then primer, then top coat of paint.
Results are great and well worth the time and effort.
