DVLA wanted proof of the engine swap for me.
I got my garage to confirm the new engine # on headed paper.
I also had to get Seat (or whoever your engine manufacturer is) to confirm the capacity. for this an email from customer services was ok.
hope that helps.

Insurance etc
I had a Mk1 gti with a 2.0 8v in her prior to my TDI and the Diesel was £100 cheaper than the Gti when I renewed my insurance,It does depend on age where you live etc but I'm paying about £250 TFT which isn't to bad for a modified car I didn't think.
