Cab tonneau cover - worth having?

Are tonneau covers worth having? Will the roof suffer at all without one?

Seems like there's a few on eBay, is there anything I should be looking for??

There are different sizes:

Mine has been on twice then in the cupboard under the stairs for 20something years, but I'm hoping we will get another sunny day again sometime in the UK.

I believe it was a legal requirement in Germany, but no such law in the UK.  Looks quite tidy but way too much effort for me.

The purpose of the tonneau cover is to keep the headliner clean, when the hood is down, more importantly it also prevents the back pressure of the wind pushing against the inside of the hood. Without using this can cause the hood retaining straps to break, causing the hood to bag out at the back, plus stretching the hood components.
So I never have the roof down without the cover fitted.

Tbh it's a nice thing to have, even though its a pain putting it on and off the car. It looks good too, I'd say get your cheque book out!

OK, I'm convinced. Just spent a whole weekend scrubbing my liner. I'll dig it out of the cupboard right now.

Here's what can happen..the baggy hood out the back fold.

Another cause of bagging, is a wrongly fitted hood.

The black straps showing are the ones that get strained and snap. These however were not fed through the slits in the interliner and padding. You can see where the old strap is still attached to the frame via the rivet..

I was wondering if the roof might get buffeted around without it. Cool, will get one sorted. Just coming into summer in NZ so looking forward to getting the car on the road and the roof down.

Hi Carl, I saw your post on these on the other thread, don't suppose you have a couple more do you?

I could do with a set of the rivets for those hood straps from you too, I didn't pull the straps tight enough when I riveted them to the frame and so it bags out a little when you lower the hood down.

Cheers mate, Gav

Sorry to dig this up boys but about the bagging…. Mine does this, very annoying. I have tried moving the straps but still bags any ideas?? It's a new hood with new liner, fitted it myself, is perfect other than the bagging.

Anyone need Air-Con or Refrigeration drop me a line….thats my business! IMG_0245.jpg Photo by jjrobb | Photobucket

What is the use for that strips?

those strips fold back on themselves underneath parcel shelf and should have Velcro on to stick to carpet on underside of parcel shelf
