Buying Advice Please

Back end of last year I sold my Lhasa Green Campaign to fund my VW Camper project and now it is nearly finished I want another Mk1 again

I have found an early ish Mk1 GTi 1600 local to me but just wanted to make sure I am not missing anything.  Are there any major differences between the 1600 GTi and the 1800 GTi (apart from the obvious engine size )  Plus a refresher on what to look for in general would be nice too just to make sure I haven't forgotten too much in the last 6 months!!
